cardigan river & food festival 2012 - 11 & 12 aug
Cardigan is an ancient market town at the mouth of the River Teifi, as its Welsh name 'Aberteifi' suggests. The town celebrated its 900th anniversary in 2010, an occasion marked by numerous events and projects such as the 'Aberteifi Cardigan', a large textile work designed to highlight aspects of the town's history. That history has included the turbulent events of the 13th and 17th centuries, when the castle was besieged, as well as the cultural legacy of being the acknowledged site of the first eisteddfod, held under the patronage of the Lord Rhys.

The town today is a rural hotspot of activities and good food that's available all year round. Its unspoilt townscape and rich heritage provide a nostalgic backdrop to a thriving contemporary culture of the arts, festivals and events. With easy access to beautiful beaches, great walks, unspoilt countryside and breathtaking scenery there is much to enjoy in the surrounding area. With an abundance of good food and drink produced in the area visitors will soon develop a taste for Cardigan as well!
