RIVER

There are plenty of food festivals in west Wales, but only Cardigan has the River Teifi!

Back in the day, Cardigan was a thriving merchant port - one of the busiest in the country. The River & Food Festival celebrates the river’s place in our local history and we want to help you enjoy it too, in a bunch

of different ways...

FREE GIANT CANOE RIDES

Adventure Beyond

All day

We have teamed up with the water adventure experts just upstream to offer you free rides out on their 10-person canoe! Every hour the giant canoe will leave the pontoon (Food Court) into the Teifi, and everyone who’s signed up can have a free half-hour-of-fun on the water. Places will be allocated out on a first-come-first-serve basis from our Festival Info Point

RNLI

10.30am - 12.30pm

Our prized coastguards - the Royal National Lifeboat Institution - will make an appearance sometime during the morning of the festival. If they are not called out to sea then they might be able to give their lifesaving demo - a favourite of the festival for many years. If you'd like to support their important work, stop by their stall in the lower Food Court.

SKIFF RACE

St Dogmaels Rowing Club

11am

The crew from St Dogs will be taking to the water once again, giving us a thrilling race mid-morning. Prize money for the winning team will keep competitive spirits high!

SUP DEMO

Andy Campbell, Leanne ‘Surfing Bird’ and Libby Chivers

11.30am

We have a trio of stand-up-paddle-boarding pro's this year, representing top talent from across Cardigan Bay. Watch them show you their skills with a morning demo, each taking turns to give the orders and topple the others into the river!

Andy opened the SUP Shack in New Quay earlier this year & is one of FatStick's leading lights.

Leanne works across west Wales, combining the power of yoga with paddle-boarding.

Libby is co-founder of Board Games, based in Pembs, bringing you beaming enthusiasm for all kinds of outdoor pursuits.

CORACLE DEMO

Teifi Coracle Netsman's Association

2pm

Coracles are special to our part of Wales, and this on-the-water demonstration will tell you more about how they are made, what they are made from, how to paddle them, and demonstrate some coracle fishing techniques. Don't miss it.

SUP TASTERS

Andy, Leanne, & Libby

2.30pm onwards

Once the tide calms down you can get a SUP taster session with the pro's for half an hour at just £5pp. Bring a towel and clothes/shoes you don't mind falling into the river in. If you can swim 50m in them wet, then you're good to go!

Please note that if you have consumed alcohol you will not be taken onto the water. Safe fun on the river is the name of the game.

KAYAK & CANOE TASTERS

Adventure Beyond

All day

We don’t want you to just watch people have fun on the river - we want you to get out there yourselves too.

For just £5pp you can join Adventure Beyond for around half an hour of water playtime. Canoes and kayaks will be available for you to blow out the cobwebs and soak up the sounds, smells and sights of river life.

Sign up for sessions at our Festival Info Point. Wear normal clothes and bring some waterproofs if the rain looks like it’ll join us.
